Try to Catch Up: 2022 Run for the Health of It 5K

RACE DATE: May 7, 2022
LOCATION: Northport, NY

I thought I might have ended this blog. I didn’t mean to. I just had a very busy spring, summer, fall, early winter… and with posting about races on social media, I got mini-recaps out of my system while this poor old blog got the short end of the stick. I felt true guilt about it, but there were so many things that needed my attention last year. My priorities shifted. I figured I’d get back to it when I could.

Course PR in a Long Run Sandwich: 2022 Race for the Kids 4M Race Recap

Only five weeks late with this one! Could be worse.

I have a few recaps to catch up on, so I will try to keep this one fairly short. Spoiler: this was a Central Park 4-mile PR. Not my fastest 4M ever (almost!), but the fastest 4 miles my old bones have ever run inside Central Park.

In other words: a course PR!

Over the Hill: 2022 Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K Race Recap

It’s been a month since I’ve run this race and I’m finally getting this recap up. I’ve had a busy month and unfortunately this blog has not been a priority as of late. If you’re a faithful reader, apologies!

The 2022 Washington Heights 5K (sorry, I don’t have time to write out the full name more than once) was my first 5K since the 2020 race of the same name, a.k.a. the last race many of us ran before the world as we knew it changed. I remember that day in 2020 as being very cold. The hills felt especially difficult. I was still dealing with plantar fasciitis and had been for about six months. I did okay but came 23 seconds short of my course PR from 2019.

2 Fast, 2 Frigid: 2022 Joe Kleinerman 10K Race Recap

One of my goals for 2022 is to run one race a month. I did something like this in 2018 (16 races) and had a really good year.

My first race of 2022 was NYRR’s Joe Kleinerman 10K, my first 10K since last September’s Cow Harbor, and my first NYRR 10K since September 2018’s Grete’s Great Gallop, still my 10K PR.

Did I think I would PR in the Joe Kleinerman 10K? I did not.

Right Where It Belongs: 2021 TCS NYC Marathon Race Recap

I still can’t believe this happened. Not the race itself, just the fact that I ran it.

Not that I haven’t run marathons (this was my fourth), but I’ve struggled through two years of frustrating foot issues. I even told a friend last spring that I didn’t think a 2021 marathon was in the cards for me.

And now here we are.

This marathon was not my fastest, slowest, best, or worst. But, based on events leading up to it, the 2021 New York City Marathon might be my most miraculous. So many things had to fall perfectly into place to make it happen.

Friendly warning: I write annoyingly long race recaps. Here we go!
